UFC 162 results: Mark Munoz decisions Tim Boetsch

USA TODAY Sports

Mark Munoz not only defeated Tim Boetsch, he may have found his confidence again at tonight's (July 6, 2013) UFC 162: "Silva vs. Weidman" event in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mark Munoz made his long awaited return to the Octagon to battle Tim Boetsch at tonight's (Sat., July 6, 2013) UFC 162: "Silva vs. Weidman" pay-per-view (PPV) at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, in a middleweight mash up with title contender status on the line.

Or something like that.

They grappled early. Munoz locked up with Boetsch but ended up taken down quickly and scrambling for position. They spent most of the opening frame jockeying for position, both fighters going back and forth between dominant positions.

"The Filipino Wrecking Machine" showed no signs of the depression he battled in the months after his devastating loss to Chris Weidman.

Things slowed down considerably in the second, as Munoz continued working his stronger wrestling game to wear "The Barbarian" down. It was a sound strategy too, as Boetsch slowly wilted underneath the pressure, which included some heavy blows from on top.

It was a very strong round for Munoz.

Boetsch looked for a guillotine early in the third, but Munoz managed to roll his way out. He rolled right back into another one, and then a third, but he continued to work his way out. Boetsch, perhaps sensing he was behind on the cards, attacked an arm.

Munoz rebounded quickly and went back to clubbing his foe, even briefly flirting with a kimura. He couldn't get that but eventually grabbed a rear-naked choke, one that also failed.

Still, he was simply too strong by the time it was over the decision was clear.

Munoz earned the decision victory and may have found his confidence again.
