It seems odd but Frankie Edgar is on a three-fight losing streak, having dropped consecutive decisions to Lightweight Champion Ben Henderson before doing the same against Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo. That's three title fights spanning two weight classes, though.
Finally, he can get back to fighting three rounds against opponents who aren't the very best in their division.
This time out, he'll battle Charles Oliveira at tonight's (Sat., July 6, 2013) UFC 162: "Silva vs. Weidman" pay-per-view (PPV) at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. "Do Bronx" is coming in after having been knocked out in his last showing, one he missed weight for.
He's getting one hell of an opportunity to make up for it here.
Edgar:
"He's got a really slick submission game. He's willing to go for broke going for submissions. He's got pretty good Muay Thai, he mixes it up well with kicks, knees, elbows. He's tough. He's dangerous. I've been seven fights in a row fighting five round title fights. Coming back to a three round fight, it's going to make me get out the gun early and make sure first round I'm in his face and I'm in a rhythm I like to be in for the fourth and fifth."
Oliveira:
"This next fight will be a very important fight in my career. It will be a fight that I will show everyone that I'm not only a jiu-jitsu fighter, but I am well rounded. He's not vulnerable. Nobody has ever submitted him. Nobody has ever knocked him out. So, he is good. This is the opportunity that I've wanted. The fight I asked for after my last fight."
It's on.
See you then!
