Renan Pegado vs. Eddie Wineland ... take two.
A significant booking has been made in the bantamweight division, this one serving as a nice addition to the upcoming UFC 165: "Jones vs. Gustafsson" pay-per-view (PPV) event, set for September 21, 2013 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.
After originally being scheduled to throw down in the main event at UFC 161 last month in Winnipeg, "Barao" will now be defending his interim 135-pound title in the co-main event of the evening, as first reported by Sportsnet's Joe Ferraro on Twitter.
Unfortunately, their first go-round had to be rescheduled after the Brazilian was not permitted to compete following an injury to his foot. The bout would have served as his second defense of his interim strap, the first coming against Michael McDonald at UFC on FUEL TV 7 after taking the vacant title in a war with Urijah Faber back at UFC 149.
Third time a charm?
Wineland is currently on a two-fight winning streak, with impressive victories over Brad Pickett and Scott Jorgensen under his belt. The former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) champion will look to make his way back to the top of the rankings with a win over Barao in "Hogtown."
UFC 165 will be headlined by a light heavyweight title fight pitting reigning division champion Jon Jones against streaking Swedish contender Alexander Gustafsson. In addition, Mike Ricci is expected to throw hands against Myles Jury.
