Another one bites the dust.
Former UFC Welterweight title challenger Thiago Alves was slated to take on Matt Brown at the inaugural UFC on FOX Sports 1: "Shogun vs. Sonnen" event next month (Aug. 17, 2013), but the official Fox Sports 1 Twitter account just announced that Alves is off the card due to injury.
Replacing Alves will be long-time veteran Mike Pyle, who's been on quite a solid run of success as of late.
Pyle (25-8-1) is currently riding a four fight winning streak inside the Octagon, scoring three brutal first round knockouts in 2012 and most recently coming from behind to earn a razor thin decision over Rick Story at UFC 160 while spending a significant portion of the bout on his back.
"Quicksand" has won seven of his last eight fights overall.
Brown (17-11) has been on a similar path of destruction, bouncing back from the brink of a UFC release to win five straight, knocking out four of his last five opponents.During his recent run, he's scored significant second round knockout victories over the likes of Mike Swick and most recently hotshot prospect Jordan Mein.
In all honesty, this fight makes more sense now as both men are on equally compelling winning streaks while Alves was coming off a third round submission to Martin Kampmann.
