UFC on Fox 8: "Johnson vs. Moraga" from KeyArena in Seattle, Wash., is officially in the books after a solid evening (Sat., July 27, 2013) of mixed martial arts (MMA) action.
The main event of the evening, Demetrious Johnson vs. John Moraga, was a world title match that pit the UFC Flyweight Champion against the No. 1-ranked 125-pound contender. "Mighty Mouse," despite eating a heavy punch in the fourth round, dominated the bout with his unrivaled quickness and tempo.
And it finally paid off, with Johnson registering his first finish inside the Octagon with a late fifth round submission over the Arizona Combat Sports-trained fighter.
In other main card action, Jake Ellenberger and Rory MacDonald collided in what was billed as a possible No. 1 Welterweight contender eliminator match; however, both "The Juggernaut" and "Ares" stunk up the joint with a three-round snoozer.
MacDonald took the unanimous decision when all was said and done, but don't expect him to be fighting for a world title anytime soon even if he did want to fight Georges St. Pierre.
Robbie Lawler was also back in action, steamrolling an overmatched Bobby Voelker en route to a "vicious" second round head kick knockout to remain perfect (2-0) since his triumphant Octagon return earlier this year. It was so "vicious" that "Ruthless" was greased an extra $50,000 for scoring the UFC on FOX 8 "Knockout of the Night."
Anyway, as usual, all the stars of the show came to dish the dirt on the event immediately afterward at the post-fight press conference, including Johnson, Moraga, MacDonald, Ellenberger and Lawler, among others. Naturally, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White -- who almost always emcees the post-fight event wrap up shows -- was also in attendance.
