The main card of the UFC on Fox 8: "Johnson vs. Moraga" network broadcasted television event tonight (Sat., July 27, 2013) at the KeyArena in Seattle, Washington, kicked off with the ladies throwing blows, as Liz Carmouche made her return to the cage for the first time since getting armbarred by Ronda Rousey earlier this year.
Her opponent was Jessica Andrade, who you likely didn't know much about heading into this evening but the hope, of course, is that all would change by the time she was done.
Well, Carmouche came out attacking early, pushing the pace and aggressively striking with her Brazilian foe. She also earned a takedown and worked some ground-n-pound in there but Andrade reversed into an arm-in guillotine attempt to get herself out of trouble to end the round.
Into the second, Carmouche once again used her superior size and strength to take Andrade to the floor and batter her until she could take her back and lock in a rear-naked choke. It wasn't tight enough to get the tap, but "Girl-rilla" was in total control.
Finally, after a prolonged beating where Andrade was simply defending instead of offering meaningful offense, the referee stepped in to stop it.
That was impressive.
