The boss of the world's premier mixed martial arts (MMA) organization has been through this situation multiple times before, and there have been instances where teammates are down to face each other, and others where they refuse to consider it.
When it comes to the Tri-Star teammates, though, White feels the two Canadian's would step in the cage against one another, despite "Ares" explicitly stating otherwise.
"I don't want to keep going against what the kid says publicly," White told Ariel Helwani in a FUEL TV interview on Friday (July 26, 2013). "But anybody who really believes -- I'm not going to say what he and I talk about privately, but do you really believe this kid doesn't want a shot at the title? Of course he does."
So why would MacDonald deny any interest of fighting "Rush" and even hint at a move to middleweight in order to avoid the fight? White says it is because St. Pierre is the veteran fighter at the gym and the 24-year-old MacDonald doesn't want to stir the pot.
"Where he trains and where he lives, he's in GSP's house. He's not going to beat his chest and talk about how he wants a shot at GSP," White explained. "GSP would be insane to think Rory wouldn't want a shot at him. The kid's not here working his way up the ladder to get there and not get his shot at the title. It's ridiculous. But he's not going to beat his chest and scream from the rooftops when he's living in GSP's house."
While there is no telling if the fight will ever actually come to fruition, one thing is certain, and that's if MacDonald doesn't get past Jake Ellenberger in the UFC on FOX 8 co-main event any talk of a fight against St. Pierre, or anyone else holding the belt for that matter, will be irrelevant.
