Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is giving Ryan Couture a second crack inside the Octagon when he tangles with The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 15 runner-up Al Iaquinta at the upcoming UFC 164: "Henderson vs. Pettis" pay-per-view (PPV) event, which takes place at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Aug. 31, 2013.
Couture (6-2) was put out to pasture by TUF 9 winner Ross Pearson as part of the UFC on FUEL TV 9 event earlier this year in Stockholm, Sweden, snapping a four-fight win streak compiled under the Strikeforce banner. His original UFC 164 opponent, Quinn Mulhern, withdrew from the event due to a gnarly hand injury.
One door closes...
Another one opens for the oft-injured Iaquinta, who now gets the green light to (finally) get back inside the cage in an effort to secure his first UFC win. It was just over one year ago when he was choked out by Michael Chiesa in his bid to capture the "six-figure contract" as part of the FX-televised reality show.
Who ya' got?
UFC 164 will be headlined by a lightweight title fight pitting reigning 155-pound champion Ben Henderson against Anthony Pettis, while a heavyweight showdown between former champions Frank Mir vs. Josh Barnett heads up the co-main. Elsewhere on the PPV fight card is a pair of featherweight fights between Erik Koch vs. Dustin Poirier and Clay Guida vs. Chad Mendes.
Each of those bouts carries significant title implications.
