Jake Ellenberger: 'Tears for Fears' lookalike Rory MacDonald should 'prepare for some horizontal television time'

USA TODAY Sports

Jake Ellenberger vows to enforce his dominance over Rory MacDonald when the two meet at UFC on FOX 8 on July 27, 2013, declaring he will be the one directing where the action takes place, not "Ares."

After labeling Rory MacDonald "fake" and "nothing special" to warrant top 10 consideration, many believed Jake Ellenberger was simply doing his pre-fight trash talk in attempts to hype up their upcoming welterweight clash at UFC on FOX 8 on July 27, 2013 in Seattle, Washington.

But according to "The Juggernaut," he was simply preaching the truth, which is that "Ares" is simply getting praise for who he knows (Georges St. Pierre), and not what he's accomplished.

Nevertheless, Ellenberger took the opportunity during Tuesday's (July 16, 2013) UFC on FOX 8 media conference call to explain his recent verbal lashings aimed at the young Canadian and declared that come fight night, MacDonald won't have a say in how the fight plays out.

His words:

"I haven't said anything that wasn't true. My message to Rory was pretty clear. ... This isn't a Tears for Fears lookalike contest. All I said to him is prepare for some horizontal television time and I meant it."

In what seemed to be an attempt at humor or an insult, Jake is inferring that Rory has some similar facial features to one of the members of the new wave English rock band, "Tears for Fears."

I'm assuming he meant lead singer Curt Smith.

Insults aside, the former Nebraska Cornhusker says that come fight night, MacDonald will simply be playing a game of follow the leader, declaring that he will determine where the fight goes and how it goes down, not Rory.

His words:

"I'm going out there to perform and to win. It doesn't matter, Rory doesn't have a choice where this fight goes, this fight goes where I want it to go. He's shown he has potential, but has not faced anyone like me. So I'm stoked to be in there."

The two scrappy 170 pounders will co-headline the nationally televised card which features a main event title fight featuring UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson taking on John Moraga.

And while UFC President Dana White stopped short of declaring the fight between "Ares" and "The Juggernaut" a No. 1 contender's bout, a win for either man will do wonders for their championship dreams.
