Odds makers have pegged "Rowdy" as high as a -1050 favorite to defend her Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women's Bantamweight title against Tate at UFC 168 on Dec. 28, 2013, but Cris Cyborg and Marloes Coenen have publicly sided with "Cupcake."
When asked by hosts Kenny Rice and Bas Rutten who they feel is going to take the rematch on Friday's (July 12, 2013) edition of AXS TV's "Inside MMA," both Cyborg and Coenen blankly stated they believe Tate is going to come out on top.
Why, though, exactly? Neither was willing to dive into details.
Both women have a good understanding of Rousey and Tate due to the fact Cyborg has been feuding with the reigning UFC champion for years while Coenen shared the cage with Tate for nearly 20 minutes in a 2011 bout under the Strikeforce banner.
It is an interesting prediction due to the fact the former Olympic bronze medalist already handily defeated Tate by first-round submission in a March 2011 meeting in which Rousey won the Strikeforce belt.
Moreover, Tate lost her last fight to Cat Zingano by (technical) knockout, but managed to slide into the No. 1 contenders after "Alpha" went down with a knee injury and had to be replaced as a coach opposite Rousey on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 18.
While Cyborg and Coenen were looking ahead to what will likely be the biggest female fight of 2013, they have each other to worry about as the two competitors are preparing for a rematch of their own tonight (July 13, 2013) in the main event of Invicta FC 6.
