Family tree notwithstanding, a potential Nelson vs. Cormier fight was being kicked around the UFC corporate office for later this year. Unfortunately, Nelson's contract expired following a unanimous decision loss to Stipe Miocic at UFC 161 just last month.
But as "DC" tells MMA Fighting, he's not letting him off the hook that easily.
"Roy and I still have some unfinished business. I hope he re-signs with the UFC, so we can settle what he started two months ago. I want to find a way to give him a pass for his performance against Stipe [Miocic at UFC 161] since he took that fight on such short notice. In my eyes, that loss didn't do much to diminish his place in the UFC heavyweight division."
Cormier (12-0) is widely-considered one of the best 265-pound fighters in all of mixed martial arts (MMA), putting an exclamation on his undefeated run through the ranks of Strikeforce by defeating former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir last May.
Nelson, by comparison, is 4-4 over his last eight and 19-8 overall.
So how about it, fight fans, do you want to see Nelson re-join UFC and throw down against Cormier? Or is it high time for "DC" to make good on something he started, namely a 205-pound feud opposite Jon Jones?
