UFC on FUEL TV 10: "Nogueira vs. Werdum 2" from Paulo Sarasate Arena in Fortaleza, Brazil, is officially in the books after a submission-laden evening (June 8, 2013) of mixed martial arts (MMA) action from South America.
The main event of the evening, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Fabricio Werdum, was a Heavyweight rematch from Pride FC: "Critical Countdown Absolute," which took place almost exactly seven years ago, with "Vai Cavalo" evening the score (1-1) thanks to a second round submission finish (arm bar).
Revenge!
In other main card action, Leonardo Santos and William Macario -- the two Welterweight finalists from The Ultimate Fighter (TUF): "Brazil 2" -- battled it out for the coveted "six-figure" Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) contract. It was a classic grappler vs. striker match up, with Santos avoiding the power shot and hanging on to register an emotional second round arm-triangle submission victory.
Yippee.
Thiago Silva, meanwhile, got back in the win column for the first time in more than three years, waxing former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Rafael Cavalcante with a brutal barrage of strikes that compelled a referee stoppage late in round one.
It's about time.
Anyway, as usual, all the stars of the show came to dish the dirt on the event immediately afterward at the post-fight press conference, including Nogueira, Werdum, Santos, Silva, Erick Silva and Rony Jason, among others. Unnaturally, UFC President Dana White -- who almost always emcees the post-fight event wrap up shows -- was not in attendance.
Enjoy.
