Erick Silva has been dealing with the added expectation that comes with the hype when one makes a shocking debut in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) with a 40-second knockout. Jason High, meanwhile, has just been looking for a fight since Strikeforce closed up shop and he cut a deal with the world's largest fight promotion.
The two collided on the main card of tonight's (Sat., June 8, 2013) UFC on FUEL TV 10: "Nogueira vs. Werdum" event at the Paulo Sarasate Arena in Fortaleza, Brazil, with welterweight relevancy on the line.
And it was Silva who put himself right back on the map.
Silva, who had the backing of his home crowd in a big way, wasted no time going to work on his opponent. He attacked on the mat and, using that Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt of his, locked in an armbar off a triangle threat and got the tap shortly into the very first round.
No one told the fans, but apparently the UFC was running a beat the clock challenge WWE style.
