While the match up didn't pan out for World Series of Fighting (WSOF) 3, it seems hope isn't lost on seeing Tyrone Spong battle Angel DeAnda, as the promotion has rebooked the fight for their fourth show on Aug. 10, 2013.
Afrer missing out on WSOF 3 due to the visa issues, company president Ray Sefo confirmed on a Thursday (June 6, 2013) media conference call that he expects Spong to return to action at WSOF 4, scheduled to go down at Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario, California.
It is unknown where on the card Spong vs. DeAnda will be placed, but it is likely to be one of the featured contests of the evening.
Spong (1-0) was impressive against an overmatch Travis Bartlett in his mixed martial arts (MMA) debut in Nov. 2012, earning a dominant first-round knockout victory.
On top of competing in the occasional MMA bout, "King of the Ring" is known for his world-class kickboxing credentials and multiple championships about the world in the ring.
The 27-year-old decided to dip his toe in MMA competition after training at the Blackzilians camp in Florida and has faired well thus far, although he has yet to be truly tested.
DeAnda (11-2) has been doing work on the west coast local circuit and currently boasts a four-fight winning streak. Of his 11 professional wins, 10 of them have come by way of knockout or technical knockout.
Unfortunately "The Dream" lives and dies by the sword, as both of his career defeats are by knockout. That's not a weakness a fighter wants to have in their game when facing a striker of Spong's caliber.
