Well Lyoto Machida is out of the title picture....again.
UFC 163 just got much more interesting after the addition of a light heavyweight tilt between former champion Machida and top prospect Phil Davis. The bout, originally reported via Portaldovaletudo.uol.com, will take place on the main card in Rio de Janeiro later this summer (August 3, 2013).
Machida (19-3) has been promised a title shot after both of his recent wins, a dominant knockout of Ryan Bader and then an steady, but rather dull unanimous decision over Dan Henderson. Before that, he lost a title fight to current champion Jon Jones via submission after giving him all he could handle in the first round.
"The Dragon" desperately wants to make a good impression and get another opportunity at the belt.
Davis (11-1-1) is also riding a two-fight winning streak, bouncing back with victories over Wagner Prado and Vinny Magalhaes after suffering his lone career defeat at the hands of former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans early last year.
UFC 163 will be held at the HSBC Arena in Rio and is headlined by a featherweight title bout between champion Jose Aldo and challenger Anthony Pettis. Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more developments on the card.
