UFC on FOX 8: Melvin Guillard sentenced to probation, community service following assault charges in Albuquerque

Mark J. Rebilas-US PRESSWIRE

"The Young Assassin" fought some old assault charges, and was fortunate enough to leave the Albuquerque court room without any jail time.

Embattled Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight Melvin Guillard has escaped jail time following assault charges stemming from a night club incident all the way back in 2010. The same charges that kept him from reuniting with Greg Jackson in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Find out why here.

Guillard has been sentenced to supervised probation for the next two years, as well as community service, according to Melissa Segura from SI.com, and will also be responsible for all relevant court costs. The good news is, the former Blackzilian gets to keep his job.

For now.

"The Young Assassin" has been paired off against fellow TUF guy Mac Danzig as part of the upcoming UFC on FOX 8 fight card, scheduled for July 27, 2013 at the KeyArena in Seattle, Washington. After going just 1-4 in his last five fights, he positively cannot afford another loss.

Can the Grudge Training Center get him back on the winning track?

Guillard has given up the luxuries of his Florida pad to live in a Denver basement and sleep on a twin bed cot with just a 10-inch television. The goal is to avoid any unnecessary distractions and get back to the business of hurting people.

If he can recapture the explosive style and fan-friendly knockout performances of yesteryear, Mac Daniz may be in for a short night. If he can't, Guillard may be in for a long line ... at the unemployment office.

Anyone think he can right the ship and get back to his winning ways?
