WSOF’s Tyrone Spong aims to be 'new rush of air' people talk about, eyes MMA, kickboxing and boxing matches in 2013

If juggling a mixed martial arts (MMA) and kickboxing career wasn’t a task in itself, Tyrone Spong eyes a boxing match by the end of the year for the hat trick.

Tyrone Spong may only have one mixed martial arts (MMA) bout under his belt, but the 27 year-old is far from a "spring chicken" when it comes to swinging heavy leather.

The Dutch striker has more than 70 kickboxing fights on his resume. A number that's closer to 100 if you include the ones that aren't documented on his record according to "King of the Ring."

What's even more impressive than those numbers, is the fact that he only has six losses.

Victories over the likes of Peter Aerts, Remy Bonjasky, Melvin Manhoef and Ray Sefo have given Spong a reputation as one of the most lethal strikers in any combat sport today. In his MMA debut at World Series of Fighting (WSOF) 1 last year, Tyrone lived up to the hype, knocking out Travis Bartlett in the very first round in a light heavyweight showdown.

Tyrone will return to his roots this weekend (June 22, 2013) as he takes part in GLORY 9, an eight-man kickboxing tournament which goes down from the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.

If competing in MMA and kickboxing weren't enough, Spong also eyes a boxing match by year's end because as he told MMA Fighting, he will fight anything and wants to be the buzz people are talking about.

His words:

"I like all three (sports), but the thing is, I'm a prizefighter. I want to make sure I win all my fights. I want to give the fans something new. I want to be the new rush of air people talk about. I like challenges and I like fighting. I used to like fighting without pay. Now I get paid good for it. I'll fight anything. The way that I'm gifted and blessed with the ability to adjust and to learn everything so fast, I have to try new things. I'm gifted and blessed, and I'm very thankful that I have those abilities, so I use them."

GLORY 9 will be a one-night, single-elimination tournament that features eight of the best kickboxers from around the world, so it's safe to say Tyrone will have his work cut out for him if he wants to reign supreme.

"The Blackzilian" team member returns to MMA this August as he takes on Angel DeAnda at WSOF 4, and says he plans to take a boxing match shortly thereafter.

With an impressive showing in "The Big Apple," a victory over DeAnda and a successful boxing debut, Spong will definitely be the hot topic around the water cooler come Monday morning.
