UFC on Fox Sports 1 #2: 'Hungry' Carlos Condit says Martin Kampmann rematch is 'do or die'

As Carlos Condit prepares to take on Martin Kampmann at UFC on Fox Sports 1 #2, “The Natural Born Killer” knows he needs a win to avoid the dreaded three-fight skid ... and possible pink slip.

Before Carlos Condit made his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) debut against Martin Kampmann in 2009, "The Natural Born Killer" was riding high with an eight-fight win streak, including three consecutive defenses of his World Extreme Cagefighting Welterweight 170-pound title.

"The Hitman" put a halt to Condit's run and spoiled his Octagon debut at UFC Fight Night 18, doing enough to earn a split decision victory and forcing the Greg Jackson-trained fighter back to the drawing board.

It didn't take long, however, for Condit to rise back to the top of the 170-pound mountain, racking up four straight wins over quality opponents such as Jake Ellenberger, Rory MacDonald, Dan Hardy and Dong Hyun Kim to earn an interim title shot against Nick Diaz at UFC 143.

Condit went on to best Diaz and became the only man to hold the WEC and UFC welterweight straps, only to lose a title unification bout against Georges St. Pierre at UFC 154 nine months later.

After dropping his second straight against Johny Hendricks at UFC 158, Condit will once again meet the man who cooled his hot streak four years ago when he collides with Kampmann again in the main event of UFC on FOX Sports 1 # 2, which takes place at BMO Harris Bradley Center in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Aug., 28, 2013.

On the heels of two straight defeats, "The Natural Born Killer" feels he is in a "do or die" situation (via Bleacher Report):

"I'm really pleased to have the opportunity to avenge that loss. It was a really close fight. I had some opportunities in that fight to end it and I didn't. That night Martin was a better man and he won the fight. What's exciting about this match up is he's improved so much as a fighter since then as have I. We are both hungry. This is kind of a ‘do or die' fight for both of us. I'm coming off two losses in a row. He's coming off a loss. This is a crazy sport and a crazy business. You never know when you are going to get that pink slip. We are both highly motivated to go in there and get the win."

"The Hitman" -- a fighter Condit says' he "genuinely respects" for coming to the states and following his dreams -- is coming off a devastating first round knockout loss to the aforementioned Hendricks at UFC 154.

The loss to "Bigg Rigg" snapped the Dane's three-fight win streak, so you can bet he'll look to do anything in his power to avoid dropping his second straight when he takes on a man with revenge on his mind.

Condit or Kampmann ... who goes home with the pivotal "W" in "Circle City?"
