Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight Champion, Benson Henderson, as well as the most recent toppled No. 1 division contender, Gilbert Melendez, remain atop the 155-pound heap even though "Smooth" needed five rounds to weather "El Nino" at UFC on FOX 7 back on April 20, 2013.
That's right, nothing has changed in the first and second spots in the SB Nation Top 10 mixed martial arts (MMA) Lightweight rankings; however, thanks to failed drug test (Pat Healy) and some unsavory social media jabs shortly thereafter (Nate Diaz) that triggered a suspension, the remaining eight are all over the place.
It's a mess, really.
Indeed, we already know that Henderson is king of the mountain and Melendez remains right behind him (for now), but what about the rest of the supporting cast? How do the folks competing under the Bellator MMA banner -- and elsewhere -- factor in (if at all)?
We're here to tell you.
Check out the most recent 155-pound edition of the ranking for SB Nation, which comprises two staff members each from MMAmania.com (that's us), MMAFighting.com and BloodyElbow.com, below:
1. Benson Henderson
2. Gilbert Melendez
3. T.J. Grant
4. Josh Thomson
5. Gray Maynard
6. Michael Chandler
7. Donald Cerrone
8. Eddie Alvarez
9. Rafael dos Anjos
9. Khabib Nurmagomedov
The most noticeable change in the rankings from the previous poll is the five-spot rise of No. 3, Grant, who blasted Maynard (who previously held the position) at UFC 160 to earn the "Knockout of the Night" bonus, as well as the respect of Mike Tyson (read more here).
Nurmagomedov and dos Anjos, who are new to the top 10 since its last incarnation, are the ones who appeared to benefit from the Diaz and Healy situations thanks to their recent wins over Abel Trujillo and Evan Dunham, respectively.
Alright Maniacs, you've heard from us, now let's hear from you. Who are the Top 10 fighters at 155 pounds?
