UFC 164 has added a solid Lightweight mixed martial arts (MMA) match up, Jamie Varner vs. Gleison Tibau, to its Harley Davidson "Hometown Throwdown" pay-per-view (PPV) event set for BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisc., on Aug. 31, 2013.
Varner will look to continue the momentum he established with a split decision win over Melvin Guillard at UFC 155 in Dec. 2012. The former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) champion has had two other sensational performances inside the Octagon since switching sweaters, including a losing effort (submission) to Joe Lauzon in the UFC on Fox 4 "Fight of the Night" and an upset special (technical knockout) over Edson Barboza at UFC 146.
No good deed goes unpunished.
Tibau, perhaps the largest 155-pound man possible, is fresh off a submission victory over John Cholish at UFC on FX 8 just last month. He dropped a tight split decision to Evan Dunham at UFC 156 this past February, meaning that the Brazilian will at least three -- and possibly four -- times in 2013.
No rest for the wicked.
UFC 164 will feature a Heavyweight showdown between former champions Frank Mir and Josh Barnett on the pay-per-view (PPV) main card, as well as a pair of Featherweight fights between Erik Koch vs. Dustin Poirier and Clay Guida vs. Chad Mendes.
