Although it wasn't meant to when the bout was announced, the light heavyweight battle pitting the always exciting Ryan Jimmo against Igor Pokrajac made the main card of the UFC 161: "Evans vs. Henderson" pay-per-view (PPV) tonight (Sat., June 15, 2013) in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
Joy to the world.
The first round was mostly awful, as the two spent significant portions of it battling in the clinch up against the fence. It was bad enough, in fact, that the referee had to reset the two on more than one occasion.
Pokrajac surged late, landing a few hard shots while Jimmo retreated, but it was a fairly uneventful opening five minutes.
All that rapidly changed in the opening moments of the second stanza, as Jimmo scored a quick knockdown and followed it up with a bruising onslaught of punches that failed to finish the job.
It's too bad, too, because that resulted in a horrifically boring rest of the round.
Pokrajac landed a takedown to start the final round but Jimmo reversed him to gain top position and you can guess how the remainder of the bout played out.
Yep. Super exciting.
Jimmo won on all the cards when they came in, with scores at 30-27 across the board.
