If you thought Jacob Volkmann would suddenly become an exciting fighter once his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) shackles were off, well, tonight (Fri., June 14, 2013) emphatically proved otherwise.
That's because "Christmas" -- or "Dr. Feelgood" or "Obama's Worst Enemy" or whatever he's calling himself these days -- used exactly the same style fans came to hate when he used it inside the Octagon, a smothering, grappling heavy attack, to subdue Strikeforce veteran Lyle Beerbohm through three plodding rounds at WSOF 3: "Fitch vs. Burkman" at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
How bad was it?
Well, Bellator Welterweight Champion Ben Askren tweeted the following in the immediate aftermath of the bout:
That fight had less strikes thrown than one of my fights!
— Ben Askren (@Benaskren) June 15, 2013
That pretty much says it all about this one, no?
