Roy Nelson is a fat guy, let's just get that out of the way right now. He's also the number five ranked heavyweight in the world and the power he possesses in his hands is enough to knock out even the tallest (Dave Herman) most meat-headed (Matt Mirtione) made out of granite (Cheick Kongo) opponents.
Actually, those three names make up the list of foes he's knocked out in the very first round heading into tonight's (Sat., June 15, 2013) battle against Stipe Miocic in the co-main event of UFC 161: "Evans vs. Henderson" at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
This is an important bout for "Big Country" considering the fact that he will satisfy the length of his contract by competing at tonight's event. If he loses, it's far more likely Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White, who has long been tired of Nelson's antics, would be willing to part ways with him. A victory, however, would make it nearly impossible to let him go.
After all, a four fight win streak with no less than three finishes and multiple "Knockout of the Night" honors under his belt makes for a resume worthy of a job with the world's largest fight promotion.
But, it may all hinge on tonight's performance, fair or not. At least that makes it a bit more thrilling for us fans, right?
