Two talented Featherweight mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters, Hatsu Hioki and Darren Elkins, will look to return to the 145-pound win column when they collide at UFC on FOX Sports 1 #2, which is set to take place at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Aug. 28, 2013.
ESPN.com was the first to report the match up earlier this afternoon.
Hioki, widely regarded as a top contender in the division not too long ago, is mired in a two-fight losing skid thanks to a controversial split decision loss to Clay Guida at UFC on Fox 6 earlier this year and a unanimous defeat at the hands of the top-ranked Ricardo Lamas at UFC on FX 4 in June 2012.
While another loss for the former Shooto Lightweight Champion and Sengoku Featherweight Champion wouldn't signal certain Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) expulsion, it would definitely put him in the danger zone.
Elkins, meanwhile, saw his five-fight win streak inside the Octagon come to a screeching halt thanks to a first round Chad Mendes knockout punch at UFC on Fox 7 in April 2013. Up until the high-profile division showdown, Elkins had quietly established himself as a potential title contender due in large part to his dominant wrestling and ground-and-pound.
He'll need to do what he does best if he intends to get back in the proverbial "mix" sooner rather than later.
UFC on FOX Sports 1 #2 will feature a Welterweight rematch between former interim 170-pound champion Carlos Condit and top division contender Martin Kampmann in the main event, as well as a pivotal Lightweight showdown between Donald Cerrone and Rafael dos Anjos in the co-featured fight of the night.
In addition, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 17 Middleweight winner Kelvin Gastelum will drop 15 pounds to battle Paulo Thiago, while Olympic wrestling silver medalist Sara McMann will look to keep her perfect mixed martial arts (MMA) record (7-0) intact when she takes on former Strikeforce women’s Bantamweight champion Sarah Kaufman.
