Mike Brown isn't ready to call an end to his mixed martial arts (MMA) career just yet.
After an over one-year layoff, Brown has opted to take another fight and continue pushing forward with his career as he will take on Akira Corassani at the UFC on FOX Sports 1 debut event, scheduled for Aug. 17, 2013 in Boston, Massachusetts.
The Featherweight match up was confirmed by Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) officials via Twitter on Friday (May 31, 2013) evening.
Brown (26-8) was last seen inside the Octagon at UFC 146 in May 2012 where he defeated Daniel Pineda by unanimous decision for his second consecutive victory after a rough patch where he lost three of four bouts.
The 37-year-old, best known for his two victories over Urijah Faber and stint as World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) featherweight champion, has contemplated retirement in recent years, but has continued to accept at least one fight a year since 2011.
Brown serves as one of the head coaches at the Florida-based American Top Team (ATT); however, he is very excited to once again be able to compete in the northeast.
"Can't wait to be back fighting in New England," Brown wrote on his official website. "Come check it out in person or watch it live on Fox sports. Thanks for the support."
Corassani (11-3-1) has also strung together back-to-back victories, defeating both Andy Ogle and Robbie Peralta by decision at overseas UFC events.
The win over Peralta was viewed as a surprise to many due to the fact "Problems" was viewed as a future 145-pound title contender and Corassani managed to win the fight without a tremendous amount of resistance.
While no main event is set for UFC on FOX Sports 1 at this time, a monster heavyweightclash between Alistair Overeem vs. Travis Browne was recently made official. Thiago Alves vs. Matt Brown and Michael Johnson vs. Joe Lauzon have also been slated to hook 'em up.
