Both men are coming off (technical) knockout defeats in their last bouts and will look to get back on the winning track when they meet at KeyArena in Seattle, Wash., on July 27, 2013.
UFC officials confirmed the 155-pound match up on Thursday (May 2, 2013) via their official website.
Riley (30-13-1) has not competed since suffering a broken jaw at the hands of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season 13 winner Tony Ferguson at UFC 135 in Sept. 2011. It was the second time in Riley's career where he has sustained the injury and now that he is finally recovered, the 32-year-old is ready to return to action.
The Jackson's MMA trained fighter has struggled to find consistency since returning to the UFC in 2008, alternating wins and losses for a 3-3 record. Dating back to 2002, Riley is 3-5 overall in the world's premier mixed martial arts (MMA) organization.
Salas (10-4) will also be returning from an extended layoff, as the 31-year-old has not competed since a 66-second (technical) knockout loss to Tim Means at UFC on FX 3 in June 2012, a defeat that dropped his UFC record to an even 1-1.
"J-Bomb" was scheduled to fight Edson Barboza at UFC on FX 7 last January; however, an injury forced him to withdraw from the bout.
Riley vs. Salas will likely take place on the preliminary portion of the UFC on FOX 8 fight card, which is likely to be broadcasted on FX and Facebook. The main card can be seen on FOX.
UFC on FOX 8: "Johnson vs. Moraga" is headlined by a flyweight championship contest as reigning 125-pound titleholder Demetrious Johnson puts his belt on the line for the second time against No. 1 contender John Moraga.
