With Miesha Tate's sudden shift to a coaching role on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 18, Liz Carmouche was in need of an opponent for UFC on FOX 8. She got one on Friday (May 31, 2013) in the former of an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) newcomer.
According to a report from Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting, the unheralded Jessica Andrade will make her Octagon debut against the former bantamweight title challenger on the main card of UFC on FOX 8, which is scheduled to take place from inside KeyArena in Seattle, Wash., on July 27, 2013 and will be broadcasted on network television giant FOX.
Carmouche (8-3) was last seen in the Octagon as one half of the first female mixed martial arts (MMA) contest under the UFC banner when she unsuccessfully challenged Ronda Rousey for the title at UFC 157 last February.
"Girl-Rilla" participated in the first-ever women's bout in UFC history, and now she will make history again by participating in the first women's fight to ever be featured on FOX.
Andrade (9-2) has only been competing professionally for less than two years, but in that short time she has already managed to rack up nine victories and has finished her opponent by (technical) knockout or submission in all of them.
At just 21 years of age, "Bate Estaca" will make history at the event by becoming the youngest female fighter to ever step foot inside the Octagon.
UFC on FOX 8 is headlined by a flyweight championship contest between reigning 125-pound titleholder Demetrious Johnson and No. 1 contender John Moraga. Also on the card will be a welterweight showdown between top contenders Jake Ellenberger and Rory MacDonald.
