Even though a drop in weight to the light heavyweight division is in his future, Daniel Cormier still wants another fight against an elite heavyweight and if he had his way it would be against the winner of Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Fabricio Werdum, who face off in the UFC on FUEL TV 10 main event next month.
Cormier (12-0) has made his plan for the future crystal clear in recent weeks, stating he will inevitably fight 205-pound champion Jon Jones for the title, but only after he patiently and safely works his way down in weight.
While he drops weight, though, Cormier would like to continue fighting heavyweight opponents, and he thinks the winner of the June 8, 2013 contest between Nogueira and Werdum would be an ideal match up for his second UFC appearance.
While match ups with either Nogueira or Werdum would be highly intriguing due to the jiu-jitsu based style of both Brazilian fighters, but in the big picture an argument can be made that neither fight makes sense.
A win for either Nogueira or Werdum at UFC on FUEL TV 10 would put them among the top title contenders in the heavyweight division, and while Cormier is also a member of that group, he won't be for long and there is no sense having him knock off potential title contenders if he isn't going to be fighting for the belt himself.
There are plenty of options for Cormier to explore next in his career, but with Jones' recent comments to "DC" on Twitter asking when his diet will begin paired with the former Olympian's snarky response in the Q&A, it seem a match up with "Bones" is the fight to make for Cormier at this time.
