Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight James Head is making a personal sacrifice in order to help others in his community.
Head (9-3), a native of Southern Illinois who trains out of Oklahoma state, plans to donate his purse from his next fight to those who were personally affected by the damage caused by deadly tornado that ran though Moore, Okla., earlier this week.
"Stoked to announce that I'm going to donate my next @ufc fight purse and 100% of all profits from @CF_Athletic #Pray4OK tee to benefit #Oklahoma tornado victims!," Head wrote on his official Twitter account on Thursday (May 23, 2013).
The t-shirts Head mentions in the message can be purchased here, and other UFC fighters such as Daniel Cormier are also promoting the sale of the shirts in order to raise funds to help the victims of the horrific natural disaster.
It is unknown at this time when Head will be able to donate his fight purse or exactly where the money will, as his next contest has not been announced at this time.
However, the 29-year-old did mention on Twitter that he is tentatively scheduled to compete at UFC 164 on Aug. 31, 2013, but nothing has been officially confirmed at this time.
For a mid-tier fighter such as Head --who is likely not on a particularly well-paying contract-- the willingness to give up his money to help others is an extremely commendable move that deserves praise.
If you are looking for a way to help the victims of the Oklahoma tornado, be sure to purchase one of the t-shirt promoted in Head's message above or donate through American Red Cross by texting REDCROSS to 90999 to give $10 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief, donate online here or by phone at 1-800-RED CROSS.
