Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heads back to "The Garden State" just over three weeks from today with a major mixed martial arts (MMA) pay-per-view (PPV) event planned for the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on Sat., April 27, 2013.
UFC 159 will feature Jon Jones, defending his 205-pound title once again -- this time against Chael Sonnen -- in the main event of the evening. Sonnen was initially offered up as a last minute replacement for Dan Henderson at UFC 151, but Jones turned that fight down resulting in the cancellation of the event.
Both opponents have been relatively civil as rival coaches on season 17 of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) but the claws have started to come out now that the show is nearing its finale. Jones has questioned Sonnen's heart while the mouthy ex-realtor has been a bit more poetic.
Not many are giving Sonnen a chance, including the Vegas oddmakers, but as we've seen in recent events like UFC 156, anything can happen.
In other PPV main card action, Michael Bisping battles Alan Belcher in a battle of recent middleweight contenders who are trying to get back into the fold. Also on tap will be a heavyweight attraction pitting TUF season 10 winner Roy Nelson against the always-dangerous Cheick Kongo. And don't forget the highly intriguing grappling battle between Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion Vinny Magalhaes and national champion wrestler Phil Davis.
It's going to be good.
