UFC 159: "Jones vs. Sonnen" from Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., is officially in the books after another action-packed evening (April 27, 2013) of mixed martial arts (MMA) action.
The main event of the evening, Jon Jones vs. Chael Sonnen, was a questionable match up against the most dominant 205-pound champion ever and a former two-time 185-pound No. 1 title challenger who did little to earn the opportunity besides talk a great game. When it came down to actually backing up all that talk Sonnen wilted, losing a lopsided bout via first round technical knockout stoppage (watch highlights here).
In other main card action, Michael Bisping and Alan Belcher traded leather in a Middleweight bout that would not only earn the winner major bragging rights, but also get him one step closer to sniffing a potential title shot later this year. It was far from the firefight that most fight fans expected, with "The Count" coasting to a unanimous decision win over "The Talent" via technical decision.
Pat Healy, meanwhile, returned to the Octagon for the first time since 2006, finishing the super tough and resilient Jim Miller in the third round of their back-and-forth Lightweight scrap, earning "Bam Bam" a ridiculous extra $130,000 for scoring the UFC 159 "Submission of the Night" and simultaneously turning in the "Fight of the Night."
Impressive.
Anyway, as usual, all the stars of the show came to dish the dirt on the event immediately afterward at the post-fight press conference, including Jones, Sonnen, Bisping, Roy Nelson, Phil Davis and Healy, among others. Naturally, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White -- who almost always emcees the post-fight event wrap up shows -- was also in attendance.
Enjoy.
