If the powers that be at the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) had their way, Phil Davis and Vinny Magalhaes would have already fought back at UFC 155: "Dos Santos vs. Velasquez 2" on Dec. 29, 2012, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Originally, Davis was scheduled to battle Forrest Griffin in a hugely important bout in the light heavyweight division. But Forrest suffered a knee injury that forced him to bow out, paving the way for Magalhaes to step in. He offered, too, but with one caveat: the fight would have to take place at a later date.
That's not what anyone else wanted and a war of words between the two sides ensued, done through the medium of today's generation, Twitter.
Magalhaes then said he would accept the fight at UFC 155 if Davis would move up to heavyweight. "Mr. Wonderful" found this ridiculous and offered to have the bout take place on the moon. It got even sillier but eventually the two sides agreed to throw down at tonight's (Sat., April 27, 2013) UFC 159: "Jones vs. Sonnen" event at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
As with the top two fights on the card, it's finally time for the talk to cease and the fists to fly.
MMAmania.com will provide LIVE round-by-round, blow-by-blow coverage of the UFC 159 main card action on fight night (Sat., April 27, 2013), which is slated to begin promptly at 10 p.m. ET on PPV.
