Although Chael Sonnen has created plenty of bad blood with Jon Jones in advance of their light heavyweight championship showdown tonight (Sat., April 27, 2013) in the main event of UFC 159 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, the co-main event is also leaning heavy on trash talk to promote the battle between British bad boy Michael Bisping and Johnny Cash fan Alan Belcher.
In fact, one could argue the two have engaged in far more meaningful verbal warfare than Jones and Sonnen.
Belcher explains the feud and how it dates back a number of years:
"The grudge with me and Mike has gone back a few years. I asked for the fight before, my coaches asked for the fight. Bisping didn't want to fight. And that went on for a while. It became a little bit personal over the years and it just kind of built into the grudge that it is now. And I'm finally going to get the chance to do my thing and prove it, so I can't wait."
Bisping explains in a way only he can:
"First time he called me out, my response was 'listen, if this guy, Alan 'Douchebag' or whatever his name is, if he's looking for an opponent to fight maybe he might want to pick a fight with his tattoo artist because of the abomination on his arm. Apparently, it's supposed to be Johnny Cash but to me, it looks like a fat Elvis Pressely. He wants to fight me because he wants a piece of what I've got. I'm, by far, a better fighter than him. I've co-main evented and main evented many a UFC. People know who I am. He's been calling me out for five years; his time has come."
And now it's time to shut up and fight.
