The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) today issued its list of medical suspensions for UFC on FOX 7: "Henderson vs. Melendez," which took place last Saturday night (April 20, 2013) from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.
With several of the bouts ending by way of knockout or technical knockout, there were quite a few fighters who were flagged for follow up visits to their doctors. In fact, all 24 of the night's competitors were suspended in one form or another.
Some more than others.
That includes Ramsey Nijem, who could be out for up to six months after having his brains scrambled by Myles Jury on the preliminary card. Even if he's cleared to compete, the CSAC has benched him for 45 days -- no exceptions.
Also getting the long-term layoff is Daniel Cormier, thanks to a bum index finger suffered in his unanimous decision win over Frank Mir, who needs just seven days to recuperate after getting mugged and slugged for three rounds. Jordan Mein, Chad Mendes and Jorge Masvidal also join the six-month club.
Here is the complete list of UFC on FOX 7 medical suspensions and injuries:
Suspended seven days (precautionary reasons):
Suspended 45 days (30 days no contact):
Suspended 60 days (60 days no contact) pending physician's clearance:
Joseph Benavidez (broken tooth and laceration to right eyebrow)
Nate Diaz (facial lacerations to nose and cheek)
Myles Jury (laceration to right eyebrow and cheek)
Matt Brown (laceration to right eyebrow)
Jorge Masvidal (scalp lacerations)

Ramsey Nijem (head trauma)
Jorge Masvidal (right thumb fracture)
Jordan Mein (possible left jaw and right orbital fracture)

Chad Mendes (possible right index finger fracture)
Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.
