With Chael Sonnen focused on training for his UFC 159 showdown with Jon Jones and therefor unable to fulfill his duties as host on "UFC Tonight," Ultimate Fighting Champion (UFC) bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz has stepped in as an analyst for the weekly news program on FUEL TV.
Cruz, alongside co-host Kenny Florian, provides insight and an expert opinion to the FUEL TV audience regarding anything and everything in the world of mixed martial arts (MMA).
With UFC on FOX 7: "Henderson vs. Melendez" going down tomorrow night (April 20, 2013) in San Jose, Calif., Cruz and Florian were required to give his official predictions for the three leading bouts on the card during the most recent edition of "UFC Tonight."
"The Dominator" and "Ken-Flo" discussed the lightweight championship main event between Benson Henderson and Gilbert Melendez, as well as the heavyweight co-main event pitting Frank Mir against Daniel Cormier
Watch the video above, or read below for a transcription of Cruz and Florian's predictions:
Cruz: "I take Benson Henderson in this fight, even though I look at Gilbert Melendez and I say, ‘Man, you're a beast, and you can knock anyone out.' But I think Henderson's pace and the way he mixes it up is going to give Gilbert a hard time."
Florian: "I'm going to go with Henderson as well. I think that Gilbert is a very tough style match up, but Benson's going to get the win here."
Cruz: "I think that Cormier's not going to the ground with Mir. I mean, he's got eight submission finishes, the most in the heavyweight division. Why go the ground with him, make him comfortable? Stay standing, take him down to keep him off rhythm and beat him that way. I take Cormier."
Florian: "I'm going to have to go with the Olympian here, I think his wrestling is going to dictate where this fight takes place, I think he has a little bit better hands than Frank Mir - I gotta go with ‘DC.'"
MMAmania.com will provide LIVE round-by-round, blow-by-blow coverage of the entire card on fight night (Sat., April 20, 2013), starting with the Facebook "Prelims," which are scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. ET, as well as the main card, which is slated to air at 8:00 p.m. ET on FOX.
