The second ever women's fight to take place inside the Octagon under the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) banner pitted the popular Miesha Tate against the unheralded and largely unknown, but still incredibly dangerous, Cat Zingano at tonight's (Sat., April 13, 2013) The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 17 Finale in Las Vegas, Nevada. The winner was promised a coaching slot on TUF 18 opposite division champion Ronda Rousey.
Round one saw Miesha basically go running across the cage with a big right hand and a trip takedown. She couldn't hold her position, but locked on to Zingano and absolutely refused to let go. Cat locked in a guillotine but Tate escaped and started landing hard punches that had Cat on wobbly legs.
And the crowd goes wild.
Living up to her name, "Takedown" grabbed one and looked for a submission but ended up getting swept. She used the cage to get back to her feet and that's when the two just started throwing bombs and testing each other's chins. Both ladies landed plenty of hard shots, withstanding a lot of damage in between takedowns.
I'd say they mixed them in to rest, but they were working hard once they were on the floor.
The round came to a close with Tate on top and Zingano defending.
