Zingano finishes Tate in the final round

The second ever women's fight to take place inside the Octagon under the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) banner pitted the popular Miesha Tate against the unheralded and largely unknown, but still incredibly dangerous, Cat Zingano at tonight's (Sat., April 13, 2013) The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 17 Finale in Las Vegas, Nevada. The winner was promised a coaching slot on TUF 18 opposite division champion Ronda Rousey.

After two rounds it was a relatively even encounter. Tate did well in the first and parts of the second while Zingano had her moments in the first and came on strong in the second.

The third round opened with Cat earning a quick takedown to score points. She stayed busy on top to score even more while avoiding a stand up from referee Kim Winslow. Tate could do nothing but try to survive until she could stand up, but even then she ate a big knee and went back to the mat.

Zingano kept the pressure on and after Tate got back to her feet once more, she landed a series of knees, punches, and elbows that busted "Takedown" open and prompted Winslow to step in to stop the beating.

Wow.

Zingano comes back strong against Tate in second

The second ever women's fight to take place inside the Octagon under the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) banner pitted the popular Miesha Tate against the unheralded and largely unknown, but still incredibly dangerous, Cat Zingano at tonight's (Sat., April 13, 2013) The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 17 Finale in Las Vegas, Nevada. The winner was promised a coaching slot on TUF 18 opposite division champion Ronda Rousey.

The action was hot and heavy in round one and it continued into round two with Zingano opening things up with a flying knee that led to a clinch and a takedown. Tate managed to lock in an armbar during a scramble but Cat defended perfectly and got herself out of trouble.

For about two seconds.

Miesha advanced position to full mount before taking her opponent's back. This led to an another submission attempt, this one a kneebar and then an ankle lock. Zingano countered and landed some hard punches and short elbows after getting top position once her leg was free.

They battled back to their feet and swung for the fences before the horn signaled for one more.

Whew.

Tate and Zingano bang it out in first round

The second ever women's fight to take place inside the Octagon under the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) banner pitted the popular Miesha Tate against the unheralded and largely unknown, but still incredibly dangerous, Cat Zingano at tonight's (Sat., April 13, 2013) The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 17 Finale in Las Vegas, Nevada. The winner was promised a coaching slot on TUF 18 opposite division champion Ronda Rousey.

Round one saw Miesha basically go running across the cage with a big right hand and a trip takedown. She couldn't hold her position, but locked on to Zingano and absolutely refused to let go. Cat locked in a guillotine but Tate escaped and started landing hard punches that had Cat on wobbly legs.

And the crowd goes wild.

Living up to her name, "Takedown" grabbed one and looked for a submission but ended up getting swept. She used the cage to get back to her feet and that's when the two just started throwing bombs and testing each other's chins. Both ladies landed plenty of hard shots, withstanding a lot of damage in between takedowns.

I'd say they mixed them in to rest, but they were working hard once they were on the floor.

The round came to a close with Tate on top and Zingano defending.
