Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heads back to the Great White North one week from today with a major mixed martial arts (MMA) pay-per-view (PPV) event planned for the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on Sat., March 16, 2013.
UFC 158 will feature Georges St. Pierre, defending his 170-pound title once again -- this time against Nick Diaz -- in the main event of the evening. The pair was supposed to collide at UFC 137 back in 2011; however, Diaz was pulled from the championship bout because he was unable to fulfill his promotional obligations.
The trash talk has continued on-and-off since that time, reaching an "insane" crescendo during the media conference call (listen to it here) that took place earlier this week -- it spiraled into an ugly, epic war of words.
"Words" that UFC commentator Joe Rogan thinks could benefit Diaz on fight night:
"If Nick Diaz can get Georges overly emotional, if he can get Georges to take chances that he normally wouldn't take, and make mistakes that he normally wouldn't make, that is Nick Diaz's best opportunity to win this fight."
Time will tell.
In other PPV main card action, the man who most combat sports fans feel is the true No. 1 Welterweight contender, Johny Hendricks, will hook 'em up with the man who just lost his divisional title bid, Carlos Condit, via unanimous decision at UFC 154 in Nov. 2012. Jake Ellenberger and Nate Marquardt will also clash, hoping to inch closer to the top of the 170-pound heap right behind the winner of "Bigg Rigg" vs. "Natural Born Killer."
It's going to be good.
