The last man to wear 185 pounds of gold under the now-defunct promotion, Luke Rockhold, will make his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) debut against a man who knows a thing or two about championships, Vitor Belfort, at the upcoming UFC on FX 8 main event on May 18 in Brazil.
The Brazilian is a slight underdog at -110 compared to Rockhold's line of -130, according to Best Fight Odds.
Belfort (22-10) was last seen planting Michael Bisping at the UFC on FX 7 event earlier this year in Brazil. "The Phenom" is now 4-2 since returning to ZUFFA back in 2009 and his two losses came to Anderson Silva and Jon Jones in separate title fights.
Not too shabby.
Rockhold enters the Octagon with a 10-1 record and having never lost under the Strikeforce banner. The American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) standout also boasts wins over Ronaldo Souza and Tim Kennedy, among others. But are those credentials good enough to give him the edge on fight night?
We shall see.
The last time Rocky was an underdog was against "Jacare" for their 185-pound title fight at the Strikeforce: "Barnett vs. Kharitonov" event back in late 2011. Belfort, meanwhile, fluctuates back and forth, playing the favorite against Bisping, Akiyama and Johnson.
He was the 'dog against Jones, Silva and Rich Franklin, when "Ace" welcomed him back to the Octagon at UFC 103.
No question a lot of fans are expecting Belfort to take this one easily, so it will be interesting to hear what y'all have to say about the UFC on FX 8 betting lines.
Is the former king of Strikeforce getting too much respect?
