Before the World Series of Fighting II main event between Andrei Arlovski and Anthony Johnson went down tonight (March 23, 2013), two talented lightweights Gesias Cavalcante and Justin Gaethje opened up the main card on the NBC Sports network in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The was no feeling-out process as both men came out swinging bombs and Gaethje got the better of them, scoring with a powerful knee in the opening minute and forcing Cavalcante to play defense along the fence. Gaethje was throwing strikes so powerfully and at times recklessly, that he would repeatedly slip and fall to his back before getting righ tback up and going after the veteran.
The clinch was where Gaethje did his most damage, blasting Cavalcante with uppercuts and knees from inside position along the fence and busting up a huge cut on the Blackzilian's forehead, which began to bleed heavily.
It got so bad that the referee paused the fight to have the cageside physician check the cut out and after seeing how badly it was bleeding and the location above Cavalcante's left eye, he was left with no choice but to put a stop to the fight after just 2:27 in the worst round.
Gaethje remains unbeaten and looks like he's got a very bright future. Were you impressed, Maniacs?
