"No submission attempts. Just rest, come to the ground, let’s rest."
There are three hard-and-fast maxims in modern mixed martial arts (MMA) reporting (at least here at MMAmania.com):
1. Never write anything that comes out of the mouth of Ken Shamrock because you are doomed to repeat the mindless follow-up stories that will undoubtedly follow and lead to nowhere; 2. Alessio Sakara will get hurt, but never cut, so write a post right the first time so you can recycle it later; 3. Never, ever under any circumstances whatsoever share a fight announcement that includes Paulo Filho because it's either false or he'll find an insane way to sabotage it.
Therefore, it should come as no surprise that on the same day we schedule a post the features the former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) Middleweight champion, a preview of his upcoming bout with David Branch at World Series of Fighting (WSOF) 2 this weekend (Sat., March 23, 2013) at Revel in Atlantic City, N.J. (read it here), Filho would stage some shenanigans just a few days from showtime.
MMAFighting.com reports that Filho, who has battled countless injuries and personal demons since his heyday in Pride FC -- including the bizarre incident against Chael Sonnen at WEC 36 back 2008 in which he appeared to be talking to ghosts and asking the future Ultimate Fighitng Championship (UFC) 185-pound No. 1 contender to go to the ground for a little rest (more on that here) -- suffered a panic attack in Brazil, delaying his arrival in the "Garden State" and putting his 185-pound main card bout against Branch in doubt.
As of this writing, Filho has apparently conquered his mind and is on a plane en route to the tristate area; however, that could all change in a matter of minutes. And there are still 72 hours until WSOF 2 airs live on NBC Sports network, which seems like a risky proposition at the moment under the circumstances and considering his unstable and unpredicabtle past.
Stay tuned.
