The most highly anticipated fight in a long, long time finally went down tonight (Sat., March 16, 2013) at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, with Nick Diaz challenging welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre in the main event of UFC 158 live on pay-per-view.
Diaz was told after the fourth round that he had five minutes to get the job done or that would it for him. He came out firing away with punches too but St. Pierre was ready to fire back a few of his own.
Then they clinched and it seemed obvious both men were worn down. St. Pierre had the big advantage, though, because he could simply coast to the scorecards and win easily. Diaz, meanwhile, needed to give it everything he had and that's not what he did.
Once they reset, Diaz went with a high kick and fell on his ass, leading to St. Pierre rushing to come down and gain position where he could ride it out the rest of the way.
Diaz rolled but Georges maintained position through every single scramble. Even when they got back to their feet, Diaz had nothing to offer the champion. With 30 seconds to go, St. Pierre landed another takedown for good measure, simply putting an exclamation point on yet another title defense.
He is the king.
