Nate Marquardt may have lost the Strikeforce welterweight championship in his swan song with the dying promotion but that didn't stop him from getting a big fight against Jake Ellenberger in his return to the Octagon at UFC 158: "St. Pierre vs. Diaz" tonight (Sat., March 16, 2013) at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

And with the top two fights on the card set to bring some clarity to the division title picture, this was kind of a big deal for both men involved.

Marquardt's game plan was clear from the outset: leg kicks, leg kicks, a head kick, then a few more leg kicks. He was going outside and in, pushing Ellenberger back and keeping him at range at nearly all times, at least early on. The one time he felt he had him hurt, "The Great" blitzed with head kicks and punches that just missed their mark.

Who knows what happens if they had connected clean.

It's too bad they didn't, too, because "The Juggernaut" only needed a couple of well placed punches to put Marquardt down on the mat. A few follow up shots while Nate grasped at his ankles finished the job.

This marks yet another big statement win for Ellenberger and means Marquardt has now lost two in a row.
