Chris Camozzi fought Nick Ring to a close decision, eventually earning a split victory on the main card of the UFC 158: "St. Pierre vs. Diaz" PPV at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
The black sheep bout on the UFC 158: "St. Pierre vs. Diaz" main card on pay-per-view (PPV) tonight (Sat., March 16, 2013) at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, was unquestionably the middleweight mash up pitting the streaking Chris Camozzi against the vigilante himself, Nick Ring.
It makes sense, what with Georges St. Pierre vs. Nick Diaz and Johny Hendricks vs. Carlos Condit still to come.
Ring opened the fight with an oddball strategy, leaving his chin up in the air and his hands hanging low at his waist. This is fine if you're Anderson Silva but let's be real, I may get struck with lightning for even putting Nick Ring's name in the same sentence with "The Spider."
Ring was aggressive, though, and his lack of respect for Camozzi's power led to his firing off plenty of punches. The crowd wasn't having it anyway as he failed to connect far more often than he was successful.
The second round saw Camozzi find some success with a few big knees but Ring's volume was impressive. The two were locked in a slow but steady battle with plenty of back-and-forth action.
The third and final frame saw the same action as the first two. Camozzi landed plenty of hard shots, enough to open cuts under both of Ring's eyes, while Ring got in his share of offense as well.
But, really, neither guy impressed.
In the end, the judges split in their decision to give Camozzi the victory by scores of 29-28, 28-29, and 29-28.
