The Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) second event in Sweden is shaping up to be just as successful as the organization's first trip to the country with tickets to the April 6, 2013, event selling out in a matter of hours.
UFC President Dana White tweeted the news on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 9, 2013).
"Stockholm Sweden sold out in hours!!!!" White wrote on his official Twitter account. "Gustafsson vs Mousasi"
UFC on FUEL TV 9: "Gustafsson vs. Mousasi" goes down from the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. The event headliner will see Alexander Gustafsson return to his home country to compete against former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi, who makes his UFC debut at the event.
The UFC's first event in Sweden, UFC on Fuel TV 2: "Gustafsson vs. Silva" sold out in roughly three hours back in 2012. The announced attendance for the event was 15,428 for a live gate of $2.23 million.
With UFC on FUEL TV 9 taking place in the same venue as the previous event, it's likely the gate and attendance numbers will be similar to the organization's last trip to the country, which could only be described as a resounding success.
Mousasi, one of the event headliners, posted a message on his official Twitter account sharing his excitement following White's tweet.
"Stockholm sold out in hours," Mousasi wrote. "I wont let my fans down and gonna deliver a BIG BANG"
The main card for UFC on FUEL TV 9 will air on FUEL TV, with the event's preliminary card likely to stream on Facebook.
