A middleweight bout has been added to the Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) next network television event as Francis Carmont will take on Lorenz Larkin at UFC on FOX 7: "Henderson vs. Melendez" on April 20, 2013, in San Jose, California.
The event will mark the fifth "UFC vs. Strikeforce" match up announced for the card thus far, as Larkin will grace the Octagon for the first time since the now-defunct Strikeforce organization closed its doors in January 2012.
Carmont (20-7) is coming off a controversial split decision victory over Tom Lawlor at UFC 154: "St-Pierre vs. Condit" last November. Despite many who felt the decision should have gone the other way, the win pushed Carmont's record under the UFC banner to 4-0, and also improved his current win-streak to nine.
"Limitless" is a French transplant who currently lives in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and trains alongside welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre at Tristar Gym.
Larkin (13-0, 1 NC) was 4-0 with one "No Contest" in his time in Strikeforce with notable wins over Robbie Lawler and Gian Villante. "The Monsoon" spent a majority of his career competing in the light heavyweight division, but dropped to 185-pounds for the first time for the fight with Lawlor.
The 26-year-old has earned eight of his 13 victories by way of knockout or technical knockout.
It is unknown at this time if Carmont vs. Larkin will be a part of the main card, which airs on FOX, or the preliminary portion of the card, which is likely to be broadcasted on FX and streamed on Facebook.
UFC on FOX 7: "Henderson vs. Melendez" is headlined by a lightweight championship bout between reigning champion Ben Henderson and former Strikeforce 155-pound titleholder Gilbert Melendez. Also announced for the card is a heavyweight contest of Frank Mir vs. Daniel Cormier.
