A featherweight contest has been booked for the Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) return to Sweden as a bout between Marcus Brimage and Conor McGregor has been added to UFC on FUEL TV 9 in Stockholm on April 6, 2013.
The two fighters prefer to keep their fights on the feet as they share 13 technical knockout or knockout wins between them while never being on the losing end of a bout due to strikes.
UFC officials announced the 145-pound contest on Thursday (Feb. 7, 2013).
Brimage (6-1) may be one of the most underrated fighters currently on the UFC roster as "The Bama Beast" is currently 3-0 inside the Octagon, although all three victories have come by way of decision.
After shutting down the highly-touted Maxico Blanco and Jimy Hettes in back-to-back fight, Brimage will look to kill the hype of another UFC newcomer when he travels overseas for the first time in his career.
McGregor (12-2) won't be traveling far from home for his UFC debut as the Irishman brings his dangerous striking abilities into the UFC's featherweight division. "Notorious" was a two-division champion in the Cage Warriors organization and finished all 12 of his opponent inside the distance, even boasting a 4-second knockout win on his resume.
Should McGregor continue to shorten up the holes in his game, the power of the 24-year-old could cause a lot of problems for 145-pound fighters in the UFC.
It is unknown at this time if Brimage vs. McGregor will be placed on the main card of UFC on FUEL TV 9, which is set to broadcast on FUEL TV, or the preliminary card, which is expected to stream on Facebook.
UFC on FUEL TV 9: "Gustafsson vs. Mousasi" goes down April 9, 2013 from the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. The event headliner will see Alexander Gustafsson return to compete in his home country against former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi, who makes his UFC debut at the event.
