Joe Sargent

A live blog with up-to-the-minute updates of the third quarter of the Super Bowl XLVII game between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers tonight (Sun., Feb. 3, 2013) in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Super Bowl XLVII is taking place today (Sun., Feb. 3, 2013) from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, featuring the NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers taking on the AFC Champion Baltimore Ravens.

The first half is in the books and featured the Ravens making plenty of big plays en route to scoring 21 points. On top of that, they capitalized on far too many 49ers mistakes. San Francisco only mustered 6 points on two field goals from David Akers.

Now it's time to get it started once again and see who has it in them to either close out the biggest game of their life or make the comeback of a lifetime.

A live blog with updates from the third quarter of Super Bowl XLVII is below. Remember to refresh often and enjoy the game!

Geno here.

The Ravens will get the ball to start the third. Jones brought it out from the back of the end zone and went up the pipe nearly untouched all the way to the end zone for a 109 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. That's a new record for the Super Bowl.

San Francisco-6

Wow. This is about as shocking as it gets.

The 49ers only get 13 yards from the ensuing kickoff, which is where they will start their first drive of the second half, down 22 points and needing a miracle.

1st and 10: Kaepernick dropped a dime to Crabtree for 29 yards down the sideline. That's a good start.
1st and 10: On the read option, Gore took it up the middle and picked up three.
2nd and 7: Kaepernick spread out five wide and ended up getting tripped up and sacked by Arthur Jones, brother of UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones, for a loss of six.

Suddenly, all the lights in the stadium go out, save for a few and the feed on CBS cuts out. Looks like a power outage. They go to break while they try to get this sorted out.

They show us what happened after coming back from break and it turns out half the stadium lost power. We'll have a stoppage until they can get it back up.

Looks like we're about to get back underway.

3rd and 13: Kaepernick was flushed out of the pocket before completing a pass to Walker for seven. That will force another punt.
4th and 6: Lee punts and the Ravens take over at their own 20.

The drive starts from there.

1st and 10: Flacco came out firing to Smith for a solid gain of 15.
1st and 10: Rice gets a carry and scoots up the gut for a three piece.
2nd and 7: There was a mis-communication on a hot route to Anquan Boldin off the left side. Incomplete.
3rd and 7: Flacco spread out to five wide before the snap and found Rice open over the middle. He fell short of first down marker by one yard.
4th and 1: The punt goes too long and it's a touchback.

Once again the 49ers will start from their own 20 yard line. They haven't had good field position all day.

1st and 10: A play-action pass found undesirable coverage downfield and Kaepernick had to scramble to the outside for a gain of five.
2nd and 5: Another play-action, though there appeared to be some confusion, and Kaepernick again scrambled for a 15 yard gain this time. Move those sticks.
1st and 10: Gore gets the inside handoff and only picks up a couple. No open holes.
2nd and 8: Kaepernick went deep downfield and Crabtree had it in his grasp but couldn't hang on. That's a big drop on what was a perfect pass.
3rd and 8: The Ravens blitzed but didn't get there. Kaepernick found Moss on a short curl for nine yards and a first down.

The 49ers are forced to call timeout.

1st and 10: Kaepernick found Davis on a hot throw to the outside for a 12 yard gain and a first down.
1st and 10: An awesome throw to Crabtree led to his taking a big hit and breaking a tackle before cruising into the end zone for a big TOUCHDOWN.

San Francisco-13

We got ourselves a ball game now.

Jacoby Jones return only gets out to the 16 this time. That's where the Ravens will begin trying to answer back.

1st and 10: Flacco ran play-action and nearly found Boldin over the middle but he couldn't hang on.
2nd and 10: Pierce off the left side went absolutely nowhere and that brings up a big third and long. The 49ers defense has some real energy now.
3rd and 10: Flacco got blasted by Brooks on a blitz from the outside and that's a monster sack.
4th and 18: Koch shanked the ensuing punt and Ginn returned it all the way to the Ravens 20.

Here we go. Momentum switch in a big way.

1st and 10: Kaepernick dropped it in to Davis and he got all the way up to the six.
1st and Goal: Kaepernick from the shotgun gave to Gore who went around the left side and scooted into the end zone untouched for the TOUCHDOWN.

San Francisco-20

This is really a game now. Awesome switch. Cue the conspiracy theories on the power outage, dumb as they will be.

Jones dropped the ensuing kickoff in the end zone and instead of picking it up and running it out, he sat on it for the touchback. Ravens start from the 20 yard line.

1st and 10: Rice tries to run inside and picks up a few after hitting a brick wall.
2nd and 7: Baltimore goes into a form of the no huddle, likely to get some momentum back in some way, shape, or form. The play they called was a quick hitter to Rice and he got hit and fumbled, recovered by the 49ers.

They take over at the Ravens 24 yard line.

1st and 10: Kaepernick wanted Davis on an out and up to the end zone but missed him high.
2nd and 10: They did the fake pass draw up the middle to Gore and picked up three.
3rd and 7: Kaepernick wanted Ginn in the end zone but the safety moved over and made a great play tipping it away to set up a field goal attempt.
4th and 7: From 39 yards out, Akers missed wide left but there was a flag for running into the kicker. That's a five yard penalty and sets up another fourth down to give Akers a chance to redeem himself.
4th and 2: They attempt the field goal again, this one from 34 yards out, and Akers puts this one right down the pipe.

San Francisco-23

I'll say it again. This is a ball game, ladies and gentlemen.

Jacoby Jones brought out the next kickoff and got driven into the turf by Delanie Walker, who absolutely destroyed him on a hit. That was incredible. They'll start from the 28 yard line.

1st and 10: Flacco gives to Pierce and he gets three before getting tripped up by Patrick Willis.
2nd and 7: Pierce got another run and made a few defenders miss before gaining four yards to set up third and short. This is a big one, too.
3rd and 3: Flacco from the shotgun found Boldin in the flat for a big first down that saw him pick up plenty of yards after the catch. That's a monster conversion, all the way up to the 49ers 35 yard line.
1st and 10: They go back to the flat and find Pitta for seven yards. This is just what the doctor ordered here.
2nd and 3: Rice comes back in for the first time after his fumble and picks up two.
3rd and 1: Pierce got around the corner after initially looking like he would lose yardage and managed to get the first down. Another big conversion up to the 18 yard line. Pierce was hurt on the tackle and he comes out of the game.

That does it for the third quarter. Down to 15 minutes to glory.
