Steve Hickey got housed by the House, as his precious MMA ban went up in smoke while a bill for regulation passed. Too bad, so sad, bye-bye.
While the battle rages on in New York, South Dakota just got one step closer to having a combat sports commission in place to regulate boxing, karate and mixed martial arts (MMA) events, despite vehement objections by Rep. Steve Hickey, R-Sioux Falls, who had the usual battle cry.
From the Argus Leader:
"Just the visceral perception from the average person is, this thing is violent. I just can't imagine us giving the green light to this and bringing in this industry."
Yes, this is the same jackass who compared MMA to child porn.
The bad news for Hickey is the House passed it 50-20 and will now send it to Governor Dennis Daugaard for his signature. While the Gov'nuh is also anti-MMA, the bill cleared by a wide enough margin in both the House and the Senate to override his veto.
This is a good day for MMA, but let's not pop the bubbly until it's officially "official."
