The Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) eighth offering on FUEL TV, UFC on FUEL TV 8: "Silva vs. Stann," airs live and free Mar. 2, 2013, on FUEL TV in the United States and Rogers Sportsnet in Canada.
The event is headlined by a light heavyweight between longtime UFC veterans Wanderlei Silva and Brian Stann, who both move up to 205-pounds after fighting their most recent bouts in the middleweight division.
Silva (34-12-1, 1 NC) has not fought in Japan since 2006 when he was the Pride light heavyweight champion. "The Axe Murderer" is one of the most famous mixed martial arts (MMA) figures to be bred in "The Land of the Rising Sun," and now he will have to chance to return to the country that helped build his career into what it is today for what could be the final fight of his career.
Stann (12-5) has been struggling to find consistency as of late, losing two of his last three bouts. The former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) champion is a knockout specialist and after being out grappled by Chael Sonnen and Michael Bisping in those two defeats, will finally get the chance to face an opponent who will slug it out on the feet with him.
Also scheduled for the card is a Heavyweight bout of Stefan Struve vs Mark Hunt, a Middleweight contest of Hector Lombard vs. Yushin Okami and a Lightweight affair of Diego Sanchez vs. Takanori Gomi.
After the recent UFC 157 event last night (Feb. 23, 2013) in Anaheim, UFC play-by-play man Joe Rogan and color commentator Mike Goldberg broke down the light heavyweight contest that is set to serve as the main event from Saitama Super Arena in Tokyo, Japan.
